Cheap Drinks and Plenty of Kitsch by Kings Cross Station

May 22

After cheap drinks in a cool little place near Kings Cross station? Then look no further thanĀ Simmons. It’s been there 3 years but somehow I’ve only just discovered it. Tucked away between the restaurants and chicken shops on Caledonian Road (the Kings Cross end) you’ll find what looks like your Granny’s front room, decorated with kitsch plastic table-clothes and lamps from the 1960′s. Upstairs is small and intimate, with 5/6 tables and some stools at the tiny bar where you can buy retro sweets like dib-dabs and blackjacks. Downstairs is a function room that you can rent out for parties.

It’s happy hour from 4-9pm Tuesday – Saturday, making beers and small glasses of wine a steal at 2.50. What’s more, on Mondays all drinks are 2.50. They also serve bar snacks and light bites at similarly rock-bottom prices. The staff are friendly and always up for a chat and the 60s/70s classics playing on the jukebox in the background plus old school video game re-runs on TV screens makes Simmons a great little place to go that offers something a bit different.
