URNew beginnings

Sep 17

I arrived back in Nottingham yesterday and after the mammoth task of re-arranging my furniture due to the new en-suite that’s been installed (yay) I headed straight for the URN studios. Our technical team have been working flat out over the summer improving how the station runs and they’ve done a great job. Amongst other things we now have a roving reporter kit which will mean the ability to broadcast from anywhere on campus when stories break, new countdown clocks in the studios and loads of new imaging and branding… what our Station Ed likes to call ‘Ntro’s', based not so loosely on Radio 1′s 1tro’s.

Our website will be going live on Sunday and it has heaps of new features including info on the song currently playing and the latest news bulletin podcasts.

URN is always heavily involved with Week One proceedings, which kicks off with the Move In Show from 11am on Sunday. Each day at 11am myself and the Head of Speech will be broadcasting the ‘Daily Address’ which will give new students essential information on events and activities during freshers week. We’ll be broadcasting live from Fresher’s Fayre all day Tuesday and Wednesday telling all the newbies how great we are and signing them up. We’ll also be at all the freshers’ club nights promoting our socks off.

As for news output this week, bulletins will be suspended because of all the OB’s, but there will be a special freshers week Pulse show every weekday from 4pm. I’ll be chatting to members of student run services such as Nightline and Nottingham Uni’s student run charity Karnival. On Friday we’ll have our brand new SU president Rob Greenhalgh on the show and I’ll be grilling him on his promises and policies.
